Yilorm Barrientos

Multisensory EFL Classroom

Dr. Yasna Yilorm Barrientos has been a teacher of English since 1995 and has taught students of different ages and cultural backgrounds in Chile and in the United States. She is an English Language Didactics professor at Universidad Austral de Chile. She holds a Master in Education, TESOL concentration, from Shenandoah University, USA, and a Doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences from Universidad de Matanzas, Cuba. She is a RICELT member and a coordinator of the Red de Estudios Interdisciplinarios en Infancia: Género, Inclusión y Justicia Social. Her research line deals with playful and multisensory inclusive teaching practices meant to develop socially vulnerable students' socio-affective and communicative skills in the EFL classroom. She has been granted scientific projects such as FONDECYT de Iniciación, N°11191193 (2019 - 2022) and social action projects such as "Playing with my Senses in English" (MIDESO, 2018). Her studies have been particularly carried out in public schools with children in a critical situation of social vulnerability and with EFL teachers who need to handle serious critical incidents in their educational contexts. She has written several articles on ELT in Chile and is the author of the book: Let’s go for English in 100 Fun Ways, which was published by the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education in 2015. She has been a plenary speaker in several national and international scientific and pedagogical events. In addtion, since 2017, she has led socio-educational programs in SENAME and Mejor Niñez institutions.

"Let's Go for English in 100 Ways" y "Abejitas de Oro"

Este trabajo fue presentado por la Dra. Yilorm, en una Conferencia y Taller realizado el 4 de agosto, instancia en la cual asistieron más de 120 personas, autoridades, coordinadores de las redes de inglés de la Región de los Ríos, profesores de inglés de la región y de regiones cercanas, académicos, estudiantes y egresados de la Universidad Austral de Chile, niños de la Escuela Angachilla, del Hampton College y del Liceo Italia, apoderados y familias.
